CAL Collaborative

CAL Collaborative is a New York-based design studio founded by Gabriel Calatrava in 2015. CAL’s portfolio spans the globe and a wide range of scales: from urban master plans and a mixed-use tower to pavilions and product design. Calatrava conceived CAL Collaborative as two-pronged: a design studio and experimental research lab. The interdisciplinary, international team is comprised of full-time architects, designers, and engineers, and additionally hosts academics, researchers, and students on a project-basis. The diversity of voices creates a deep well of expertise and know-how to tackle advanced, nuanced projects. The staff are led by Principal Gabriel Calatrava and senior architects with experience delivering complex projects in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, North America and the Caribbean.

Gabriel Calatrava

Gabriel Calatrava is Lead Designer and Founder of CAL Collaborative, overseeing the design and execution of all projects. Calatrava works closely with clients to create concepts that are tailored specifically to their needs, and guides the process in all phases to ensure the project is on time and on budget. Trained in engineering as well as architecture, Calatrava’s work often draws inspiration from mathematics and the sciences, with the golden ratio, tessellations, waves, fractals, and pure geometries constituting reoccurring themes. Calatrava’s core philosophy is that each project’s unique brief and context should shape the design process, and that projects should be functional as well as inspired.
